  NZQA Training Programme
Crest has a formal training programme that ensures that all our personnel are professionally trained in “best practice” techniques and processes of cleaning and hygiene.

Crest's training system is based around the NZQA National Certificate in Cleaning and Caretaking.  All franchisees undertake a series of modules including an induction course, hands-on practical training and a formal assessment of the NZQA unit standards.

The National Certificate in Cleaning and Caretaking is a 45 unit Level 2 qualification accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, and delivered and trained by an accredited Industry Training Organisation (ITO).  The courses are based on unit standards and to achieve the Limited Credit Programme in cleaning the candidate must gain at least 20 credits.

This certificate is awarded to candidates who have demonstrated competence in cleaning and caretaking in commercial premises, educational institutions and other premises.

Core subjects include the facts, procedures and concepts of cleaning:
  • Toilet facilities
  • Floors
  • Hard furniture
  • Fixtures and fittings
  • Glass, mirrors
  • Metal
  • Safe practices in cleaning
Further study is required in:
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Cleaning food preparation areas
  • Windows
  • Interior walls
  • Ceilings
  • Stairwells
  • Vinyl floor care
  • Stripping and polishing

Crest has developed an industry leading Quality Training Manual, which supports and reinforces the training programme as a reference guide.

Mr Jim Brand, an independent trainer and assessor for the Building Contractors Industry Training Organisation directs Crest’s training programme.  Jim is New Zealand’s only member of the British Institute of Cleaning Science and a registered assessor for this organisation.

Crest franchisees are being trained to the highest level possible in the New Zealand cleaning industry.

The courses have given franchisees a huge boost of confidence in their professional abilities.  They have learnt the latest techniques and processes to aid them in delivering consistent high quality cleaning services to their customers.

“It’s all part of operating a successful business,” says Jim.  “Having professional industry training helps franchisees become much more efficient at their tasks, and they provide a high standard of service to their customers.”

Crest provides training and refresher courses to all franchisees on an ongoing basis. “We believe the path to a successful career is paved with skills to be learnt along the way,” comments Jim.

“I get a real buzz out of seeing how franchisees develop through the training courses,” says Jim Brand.  “As an organisation we’re changing the industry perception from being cleaners, to "Property Hygienist’s".  It’s all about making sure our personnel are competent about the services they deliver to their customers.”
